Best Time of Year to Pave in Texas

Seasonal considerations for optimal asphalt paving results in Central Texas.

Timing your asphalt project correctly can make a significant difference in the quality and longevity of your new pavement. Here's what Central Texas property owners need to know about seasonal paving.

The Ideal Paving Window in Texas

In Central Texas, we have a longer paving season than most of the country thanks to our mild winters. However, extreme heat in July and August creates challenges. The sweet spot is:

  • March through May – Ideal conditions, moderate temperatures
  • September through November – Excellent, cooling temps help curing

Spring Paving: Pros and Cons

✓ Advantages

  • Temperature range is ideal (60-75°F)
  • Ground has thawed completely
  • Allows full curing before summer heat
  • Contractors often have availability

✗ Considerations

  • Spring rain can cause delays
  • Higher demand = potentially higher prices
  • Ground may still be soft in early March

Fall Paving: The Underrated Season

Fall is often our favorite time to pave in Central Texas. The cooling temperatures allow the asphalt to cure slowly and evenly, resulting in excellent density and durability.

💡 Pro Tip

Fall-paved asphalt installed in September-October will be at optimal hardness by the time summer heat returns, giving it maximum resilience.

When to Avoid Paving

  • Midsummer (July-August): Extreme heat makes it difficult to work with hot mix. Surface can remain too soft for days.
  • Winter (December-February): While rare in Austin, temperatures below 50°F cause asphalt to cool too quickly.
  • During rain: Never pave on wet ground—this compromises the entire installation.

What If You Need to Pave Now?

We understand that sometimes timing is urgent. If you need work done outside the ideal window, we adjust our techniques:

  • Early morning starts in summer to beat the heat
